The name of our Saline, which is known to have started its salt production in the beginning of the 18th century during the era of Selim III - the 28th Sultan of the Ottoman Empire - was given as Kaldırım Saline during the era of Sultan Abdulaziz - the 32nd Ottoman Sultan - in 1862, and a state monopoly was initiated in salt production by a "Salt Ordinance" enacted in the same year. The origin of the name "Kaldırım (Pavement) Saline" comes from the construction of a road on both sides (Şereflikoçhisar-Kulu) of the Salt Lake using pavement stones from the lake to facilitate the passage of the local residents. Thus, our saline was named "Kaldırım Saline." Today, it continues its business as "Koyuncu Kaldırım Salt Enterprise," successfully combining its historical experience with modern technology and leading the Turkish market. Salt was primarily used as a nutrient and additive until the chemical industry developed in the 19th century. Now, it constitutes one of the major raw materials in the chemical industry. Salt is now utilized in various fields including agriculture, animal feed, animal health, tree care, weeding, and snow and ice removal for traffic. In industry, salt is an essential input for many sectors, from food preservation to fertilizer production, leather manufacturing to cosmetics, enamel production to textiles, and from the paint industry to pharmaceuticals.
