1885 The brothers Otto and Robert Becker founded the "Maschinenfabrik Gebr. Becker" in Barmen (now Wuppertal-Barmen). They started with four employees and supplied the Wuppertal chemical and textile industries as well as mining with customized machines for all purposes: stirrers, textile machines, or conveyor systems, to name just a few examples. 1915 Ing. Otto Becker, son of co-founder Otto Becker, joined the company. He focused on developments and innovations in the field of vacuum and compressed air, where he also obtained fundamental patents. 1928 For the aircraft industry, so-called suction pumps were developed to drive onboard instruments. A new plant was established in Wuppertal-Wichlinghausen. 1945 The bitter consequences after the end of the war: dismantling and production ban. Two years later, a fresh start was attempted under the name "Gebläse- und Pumpenbau GmbH." 1951 Dipl.-Ing. Hansjürgen Becker joined the company. He began building a modern, international sales network and, together with his father Otto, pushed the development of oil-free rotary and side channel compressors. 1971 The new plant in the Wuppertal-Nächstebreck industrial area went into operation. Over a million Becker devices are now in use worldwide. 1981 All operational facilities and administration were consolidated in a new building complex in Wuppertal-Nächstebreck. In 1983, the second subsidiary, Becker UK, was founded in Hull, UK. 1985 100 years of Gebr. Becker. The company is among the leading manufacturers in the field of vacuum and compressed air. However, the joy of the anniversary is overshadowed by the sudden death of Hansjürgen Becker at the end of the year. 1991 The 1990s were characterized by the company's increased international orientation: Following Becker Italia in 1991, Becker Switzerland and Becker Air Techno / Japan were established in 1994. Becker Druk- und Vacuümpompen / Netherlands and Becker Vakuumteknik / Sweden joined as the seventh and eighth subsidiaries in 1997. With Becker Asia Pacific / Singapore (1998) and Becker Danmark (1999) – along with a well-established network of international representatives – the corporate group was well-positioned for the challenges of the early 21st century by the end of the 1990s. 1999 Becker continued to expand and consciously chose the location in Germany: In the new federal states, a state-of-the-art production facility was established in Apolda, Thuringia, which today provides employment for nearly 100 qualified employees. 2016 Becker is the Company of the Year 2016.
