Beutler is a developer, manufacturer, and supplier of complete gas warning systems. The first NH3 warning systems were developed in collaboration with the Swedish company Frigoscandia, which equipped its cold storage facilities with them. The systems have been continuously improved and adapted to the conditions in meat factories, cold storage facilities, and ships. The aim was to develop devices that are as reliable and low-maintenance as possible, and that can operate even under unfavorable environmental conditions. Furthermore, the operation should be simple for the user, and maintenance should be possible by trained personnel. This goal has been achieved, as evidenced by over 520 gas warning systems with 3 to 80 measuring points and over 4000 individual devices. Our gas warning devices are used in cold storage facilities, meat factories, large bakeries, power plants, air conditioning systems of banks and commercial buildings, fish trawlers, cruise ships, factory ships, naval research vessels, and patrol boats. Several patents have been granted for our sensor designs. While initially only refrigeration systems using ammonia as a refrigerant were monitored, later, when it became clear that the so-called "safety refrigerants" such as R11, R12, R22, etc. have a harmful effect on the ozone layer, the monitoring of refrigeration systems using these refrigerants was added. In the meantime, new refrigerants have been developed as replacements for the aforementioned ones, or older ones like ammonia have been increasingly used again.
