VAUZY-CHASSANGUE

The story of Vauzy-Chassangue begins in Thiers, in Auvergne, at the heart of France, a land of powerful and fertile volcanoes with a harsh climate. The town, built on the mountainside, is traversed by the Durolle River over a 450-meter elevation. Its limestone-free waters possess exceptional qualities for hardening steel. Thus, since the Middle Ages, in every street, in every home, families of cutlers have perpetuated a tradition of excellence and authentic craftsmanship, passed down from generation to generation. As early as 1751, Louis Vauzy produced his first models, sturdy and elegant knives. The Chassangue cutlery is highly regarded by peddlers, who travel from town to town across Europe, spreading the word about the excellence of its products. In 1850, when Georges Vauzy married Anne Chassangue, two families, two legacies of cutlery, united to create Vauzy-Chassangue. The family business thrived, gaining a reputation among a loyal clientele, opening a shop at 4 rue Saint-Marc in Thiers, and then two new workshops. It expanded its range and registered several new brands (“Vauzy à l’Église”, “Vauzy à la Lanterne”, “Vauzy à la Chaise” as well as the famous “Marque au Cœur”), faithful to its heritage and values: Respect for tradition and craftsmanship, openness to the world, and a taste for excellence.
