THEODOR STEPHAN KG GMBH & CO. KG

The Theodor Stephan KG was founded in 1902 by Mr. Theodor Stephan Sr. in Essen. The activities included operating sand pits for foundry applications, processing blast furnace slag for road construction, and trading in mineral products for the construction industry. With the acquisition of mining rights for the pits "Stoss" in 1919 and "Auf dem Kreuz" in 1938, we entered the production of special clays for the ceramic industry and the refractory industry. The clay division became independent after World War II and was managed from Haiger by Theodor Ludwig Stephan. The expansion of the processing facilities in both operations led to the establishment of the first roller pan mill in the clay industry in 1969, which produced dust-dry clay powder. In the 1970s, both operations transitioned from underground mining to open-pit mining. In 1979, the "Augusta" operation in Oberbrechen/Taunus was added, where raw kaolins are mined for use in non-ceramic products. Today, the company is managed in the 3rd and 4th generations by Iris Loh-Stephan and Arndt Nikolaus Loh. Our goal is to expand the mining operations as well as to flexibly adapt the raw material portfolio and processing options to meet customer needs.
