In 1974, senior manager Eberhard Ortlieb began producing jams, preserves, and desserts. He learned the craft from his father, who at the time made dried vegetables, canned goods, and delicious jams. Later, these sweet indulgences were replaced by the production of frozen fruits and vegetables, which were produced for customers in the European food industry for a long time. In 1988, the trade in nuts began, which today represents our main business. Initially, the hazelnuts were processed in Turkey, but production was moved a few years later to the main facility in Bensheim, Hesse, to enable timely and customized production for our German clients. COOPERATION WITH AZERBAIJAN From Bensheim, Ortlieb started a development project for organic hazelnuts in Azerbaijan in 1997. Since then, the collaboration with local farmers and the production facility has evolved into not just a business relationship, but also a close partnership. Since the first organic hazelnuts were cracked for us in Azerbaijan in 1998, they have become our main product. After harvesting, drying, cracking, sorting, and packaging, the nuts are either sold directly or processed further by us. In addition to hazelnuts, we also process all other types of nuts except peanuts.
