KERB-KONUS was founded in 1925 in Dresden to evaluate a patent for notched fastening elements. Notched pins and notched nails originated from the idea of creating an economical fastening element that does not require closely toleranced, expensive fits for its functionality. They were intended to replace cone pins, screws, wedges, cylinder pins, cotter pins, rivets, bolts, etc. Both the notched pin and the notched nail were fastening elements that were completely unknown until then. Therefore, the know-how had to be developed from scratch. Extensive research, including studies on the notch behavior of metals, was necessary. Marketable notch types and dimensions had to be determined, and manufacturing standards for production had to be developed. These KERB-KONUS manufacturing standards were incorporated into the DIN standards for notched pins and notched nails, first published in 1943, for the most important notch types. The ISO standards for notched pins and notched nails issued in 1986 are also based on these. The manufacturing processes were continuously improved and largely automated. The production of notched pins for automatic feeding, blind rivets, notched special parts, cylinder pins, and fastening elements made of plastic were added. The customer base of KERB-KONUS includes nearly 40 industries from A (automotive industry) to Z (dental laboratories) across all 5 continents. KERB-KONUS is the oldest and most significant manufacturer of notched fastening elements worldwide.
