CERAMIC-METAL COMPONENTS FOR USE IN HIGH-TECH APPLICATIONS Vacuum-tight metal-ceramic composite components – made from the high-performance material aluminum oxide and a metallic joining partner – is the core business of Alumina Systems GmbH. These components are used where the switching of high energies is involved, e.g., in energy, laser, X-ray, plasma, medical, and accelerator technology. A significant advantage of technical ceramics is their high electrical insulation even at elevated temperatures. Application areas include, for example, sensors in ship engines (thin wire bonding), precursor gas distribution rings in wafer coating (PE-ALD), or small thrusters for satellites. Here, ceramic composite components enable the realization of the application. In addition to standard products such as feedthroughs, vacuum switch tubes, or vacuum insulators, the demand for customized high-end applications is constantly increasing. At Alumina Systems, the mechanical-thermal stresses of a component are simulated using the Finite Element Method (FEM) even before the actual design of the component, allowing for the selection of the most suitable design for the application – without having to produce a physical component!
